Grey day

Yesterday we managed to sail until sunset when the wind disappeared, so we pulled down the sails and began to drift. The current seems to have turned mostly in our favour again, though there is a tidal element - in the middle of the night we were drifting slowly north losing some of our hard-won south!

Anthony's watch was easy - drifting with no-one around. Amanda got the rain and squalls and called on me to help put up some sail. We started sailing south, then the squall passed so we pulled down the sails again. By 3am, the wind had started blowing from the south, albeit just 7 knots - enough to sail. So up went the sails again, and since then we've had squall after squall, reeling then unreefing as we go.

We are now making reasonable progress WSW in a SSW wind of 12-15 knots. We have a reefed genoa and mainsail and are making over 6 knots. It's very grey all around us with lots of squalls. Typical convergence zone weather...
