Inching our way closer...
Inching our way closer...

We sailed a bit, we motored a bit, we inched our way closer to Pitcairn. It looks like another day or two of light winds before we get some SE winds back and can make real progress. Frustrating to be so close but once again just about drifting because we don’t want to burn too much more diesel. We have 1/4 of a tank left, plus some spare in jerry cans - so we’re probably being overcautious, but its not clear how long we’d have to wait at Isles Gambiers to get fuel (maybe for the next supply ship).

The sunrise this morning was gorgeous, and the sea state is pretty calm - a long slow swell from the south east with a small wind-induced set from the north. There is a bit more wind since I came on watch, and we are now sailing slowly under gennaker after motoring from part-way through Anthony’s watch. Wind is blowing from the north at about 10knots and our speed is building slowly (over 3 knots now!).

Another 270nm to go - with good winds that would be under two days. Its looking more like 3 for us. However, it does look like we have a period of steady conditions for our stay at Pitcairn - in fact we may not be able to leave for Isles Gambiers for a while due to the lack of wind.
