There is some debate about the weather for the next few days. Some think we will see another Maramu-type event, with strong winds and rain. Others suggest just a F5 or so. The anchorage and village on Amanu are on the western side of the atoll which isn't great for strong easterly winds - you are anchored with the reef right behind you.

We have opted to come over to the other side of the atoll. We found a spot on Google Earth that looked like it had some nice sand and shallower water. It is a nice spot but the holding isn't great as it seems a thin layer of sand on top of coral rubble. We are holding ok for the winds tonight and tomorrow but may move after that. It's a shame as it's an idyllic spot. Once the hook was down, I jumped in to snorkel it. Immediately I was joined by two blacktipped reef sharks.

The motu ahead of us is beautifully maintained, so we think this is one that they "farm" for copra - collecting the coconuts and sending them off for rendering into coconut oil.
