Mo'orea
Mo'orea

Mo'orea is a very attractive island, and being so close to Tahiti, it is quite popular with tourists. It's an easy sail, or take one of the numerous ferries across. We didn't spend long there as we had to dash back to get the Iridium aerial liberated from customs, but we did enjoy it. We did a dive along the outside of the reef which had some fascinating "canyons" probably due to lava flows in the past. Plenty of fish too and a big lemon shark - but we think the rest of the sharks were up with the other dive boats who have a habit of feeding them.

We did go and feed the stingrays though which was great fun. They are so habituated to humans now that they come right up. They turned their "noses" up at our tinned fish but still came to see us. One of the tour boat operators showed us their party tricks which was kind as we were "gate-crashing" his gig. The number of sharks hovering just out of reach made some nervous but after diving Fakarava, we were unphased. We had to motor over to Mo'orea and motor back, but when we left Tahiti, we had about 30knots gusting 40 for a while. Not the 16/20 that was forecast. At least we were downwind so it wasn't too bad...
