Once fuelled we checked in. The new Douro marina is "catamaran" friendly - they don't charge extra for cats on the breakwater, and 30% extra in finger berths. We opted for the breakwater as there seemed to be no downside. Once berthed, the storms arrived and we experienced the most vivid thunderstorms we've seen on the trip!
Next day we headed into Vila Nova de Gaia - home of the port lodges, and across the bridge to Porto itself.
Feeling lazy, we took the cable car up to the top deck of the Dom Luís bridge, and wandered across taking in the stunning views!
We had a good explore around Porto. The tiles in the train station were stunning!
We did get soaked when walking into town as yet more rain fell, but it wasn't cold which is always a bonus!
Next day, we planned to try some port. We walked into Vila Nova de Gaia again, and headed for Taylor's. The next English tour was just far enough away to allow us to lunch in their superb Barao de Fladgate restaurant. We had a stunning meal for €60 with lovely port and divine risotto, whilst enjoying the view out over the river. Definitely go here if you visit Porto! The tour was very good too and we bought some port for later enjoyment :)
After Taylor's we headed to Cockburns, taking the back lanes to avoid walking all the way downhill and the back up. The tour here was very good indeed, as was the port. We ended up with a rather nice vintage port to celebrate our trip. We've added it to the very nice bottle of fizz that Peter and Sarah bought us before we left.
