The sail from Montgomery Reef to Deception Bay was one of patience. The forecast was for the light wind to drop off, but then return in the afternoon and if we’d read the tides right, they’d also turn to run with us for the afternoon.
So we tried sailing the whole way, to save on the precious diesel. At first, we were only making 0.8knots, mostly in the right direction as the current was against us. However, it was flat water, so very pleasant. As the day progressed, the wind slowly increased and then at 2pm it reached 11 knots, the tide turned and we were doing 7-8knots bang on course! We made it into Deception bay just before dusk which was very satisfying. It was a long day though. The sunset was the reward.
This morning was mostly boat jobs. Laundry, cooking, starting a big brew of the ginger beer (10litres this time). An early lunch meant we could use the high tide to go and explore the creek, looking for rock art and spectacular scenery. We found the later, but the former was denied to us by one of the annoying bitey lizards.
Can you see him on the rocks? We actually went into this creek twice, and the first time he wasn’t there…
May have another look tomorrow, or we may move on. We’ll see how the morning and weather takes our fancy…
