Prince Regent River

We left Hanover inlet a couple of hours before low tide, to get the ebb out towards the pass around the top of Unwins Island, then the flood past Whirlpool Point and Strong Tide point. It worked pretty well, not a lot of tide anywhere - a bit against us getting through the top of Unwins, then neutral or slightly with down towards St George Basin. We managed to sail a lot of it which was good.

We chose to anchor for the night in one of the mangrove inlets on the south side of the Marigui Promontory. It was pretty comfortable despite the wind increasing to near 20knots as we approach. In the distance we had a nice view of Mount Trafalgar and Mount Waterloo.

This morning, the sunrise over them was spectacular. The mountains are the two in the middle - but they are much further away, so the promontory and Saint Andrew island look much taller.

The wind wasn’t helpful this morning - 20 knots on the nose, but with the current we motored our way into and along the Prince Regent river to the main anchorage. From here we’ll explore Camp Creek, Kings Cascade falls and Cathedral Falls as it heads towards springs. Then no doubt, the wind won’t be from the same direction when we leave!

Coral Adventurer arrived overnight and anchored in the mouth of the river, sending their guests up to the falls on multiple tenders. Eco Abrolhos is here (arrived yesterday morning). With a spot of luck we may get the place to ourselves tonight and tomorrow morning - but it is a popular spot with both yachts and cruise ships. The later are a little less predictable - yachts tend to arrive and leave with the tide, and given we arrived on todays daylight high tide, its unlikely another yacht will turn up today. The cruise ships never stay long though.
