Made good progress today. Motored up around Cape Voltaire, where the current turned with us. Caught a school mackeral on pink squid (2 for 2!) but the other lure let another fish go! It got benched…
By 11am we were sailing downwind towards the Osbourne Islands, albeit slowly. The forecast was for it to build, and it did. By 3pm we were making very good progress under screecher alone.
There’s lots of pearl farm activity around Middle Island, so we had to skirt around the edges of the channels to avoid their setup, but we made it into the anchorage well before dark. There’s a trailer-sailer here that we know of as they are friends of the boat we met in Silvergull Creek. They were out fishing when we arrived, but gave us a wave. We’ll say hi tomorrow…
We hope to find the rock art here tomorrow, and see the cave formations. They’re supposed to be pretty spectacular! We’ll probably be here for a few days before working our way up and around Cape Talbot. I’m thinking we’ll try and round Cape Londonderry on the next neap tides as its notorious for being quite lively. Thats September 1st, so we have a bit of time here and in Vansittart Bay.
