Day 10
Day 10

Day 10 was frustrating - bit of sailing, bit of motoring to keep up progress. In general, not much wind which isn't great for anyone of us - but for Duplicat in particular - we're slow without a decent blow!

Night watches were uneventful, and the morning brought a little more wind, albeit on the nose for the course we want. So we're tacking upwind - the very thing we wanted to avoid by chosing a later departure time for the crossing! Oh well, such is the weather. Looks like its going to be unco-operative until the 29th or so - when the tradewinds should return. Bring it on!

Having said all that, its easy to lose sight of the fact we're blasting along at 8knots, in t-shirt and shorts in blazing sunshine on Christmas Eve :)

As a distraction to the upwind stuff, we decided we'd get the kite out and try some KAP - kite aerial photography. I'd made a picavet a while ago but we've never managed to fly the kite from the boat underway before. That was until today. We got some nice images of Duplicat sailing upwind under full sail. Pleased with the result - and we'll definitely have the kite out in the Caribbean too.

Lunch was a cassoulet - simple enough to do in the upwind conditions (sea state: moderate, hang on to your bowls!).

Its very hard to feel christmassy when its so warm - but we've cleared an area on the foredeck ready for Santa. We're looking forward to Christmas day very much - another milestone on our trip to the Caribbean. Who knows - maybe he'll bring us some nice winds?
