This morning (after baking bread), we moved further up from Musket Cove to Castaway Reef, a spot that I’ve anchored at before. In fact, I anchored here with Pirlouit in 2019 and got some good photos as we had total glass-out conditions then.
Today has a little more breeze, but it eased off over lunch. Not quite glass-out, but very nice anyway.
This reef is one of the inner ones, rather than the barrier reef which is much further out, so the depths off the shelf are not huge. We’re anchored in about 2m of water, so we’ll have a comfortable amount under us at low water, but probably not a good spot for keel boats. You can see Mana island in the distance, another spot I’ve anchored (as has Nina on Pirlouit).
I had a quick swim, but was getting stung by something! This is a first for me in Fiji. After I got out, i had a few red marks where whatever it is had got me. That said, they didn’t develop into anything - and have disappeared now - so I’ll have a swim again later. Its a very hot day out here! Nina opted for the paddleboard to avoid the stingers.
At low tide, I flew the drone again, and as the sun had moved as well, got a different view of the reef.
I’ve done a bit more computer work, including a bit on the map on the website to make it a easier to see this years track, and to separate previous years by colours. It makes a nice addition. I also removed the Navionics chart layer since they rather unceremoniously removed it at very short notice a while back. I think people were using it to pirate charts, which is a shame as it was a really nice thing for people to see on the tracker website. Oh well..
We’ll probably stay here a night then move a bit further up the chain….
