Day 14
Day 14

We continue to suffer from a complete lack of wind. Its supposed to be returning today, and we're eagerly awaiting its arrival. Its taking its own sweet time though!

We motored slowly overnight, and each watch was rewarded with an incredible view. The sea was so calm, that the stars were reflecting off the ocean's surface. We've never seen anything like it - and to see that 1000nm from land in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean was something else. Even the sunset was amazing and though we've taken many photos of it - none of them do it real justice. You really do just have to be here :)

This morning we saw a whale breaching a few hundred metres away. Incredible sight and that was plenty close enough...

The wind was supposed to return today - so we got the parasailor out ready to fly. We've found a locker we can dump it into for squalls, so thats one job done. We even managed to fly it briefly earlier, but there was hardly enough wind to support it and we gave up after a while. We're drifting along under plain sails at the moment barely reaching 3knots. The sea is very calm, with just a long slow swell rolling through.

On the fishing front, we've lost several lures now to what we suspect is big fish, given the way the plastic coating was shredded from the tracer. However, we've still just landed the one, and no tuna. Some of the other boats are doing better - though Escape reports losing their best lure too. We'd love to get a tuna, but at this point anything would be fine.

We're well under the 1000nm to go mark - approaching the 900nm now, and we've moved the clocks back another hour (ship's time is now GMT-3). We've got just one more hour to go to be on Antigua time - and that will happen a day or two before we arrive there. We're not looking at ETAs yet, as it all depends on when the wind finally arrives and how long we dare fly the parasailor when the wind gets up :)

A final note - on the watermaker, the supplier will be arranging for spare parts to meet us in Antigua - so we'll be sorted once those arrive. Nice to have the support from folks like Advance Yacht who are ready to assist over the Christmas period. Thanks Rod.
