No wind overnight, plenty of rain but the day turned out beautifully. Plenty of sun, calm seas (still no wind of course). Which was handy, as the cooking gas chose today to run out (fortunately just after lunch whilst prepping food for tomorrow). As the cylinder is located in the anchor locker, it can be a challenge to change in rough conditions, so I usually check before we leave. I did this time as well, but it felt like there was enough. I was wrong!
Cylinder change didn't take long, and the wind started to pick up from the NW. We now have the main up and have been motorsailing with that and the genoa - though its eased again, so the genoa is away. It will be a bit like this overnight but by morning we should have some consistent NW wind the rest of the way to Whangarei.
As requested, I emailed the authorities to give them our latest ETA, but heard nothing back (again). I also updated the marina which hosts the Q dock (customs clearance dock). All being well, we'll arrive early Sunday morning and be cleared in promptly in the morning. That gives us the rest of the day to get used to dry land again! There's a shop and cafe in the marina, but I'm not sure if they're open on Sunday... We'll find out! Anyway, it feels pretty close now - just 220nm to go!
