Power generation

What a difference a couple of days makes! 3 days ago we generated a miserable 76ah from our solar panel setup which combines 1kW of panels on the hardtop with 400w on the davits (which hold the dinghy on the stern). Yesterday we generated 517ah! We also have a wind generator but with the light winds we've been getting (and as we are in general going downwind, so it sees a lower "apparent" wind), it doesn't contribute much underway. It does help at anchor but at maximum it can make 400w and the wind as to be howling for that. 517ah is enough to nearly fully charge the batteries and make a decent amount of water - which is what we did yesterday. Today is cloudy again so we expect less from them.

We do seem to be easing into the tradewinds now though. The wind swung E this morning and picked up a bit - to 13knots. We have the big spinnaker up and have turned towards Pitcairn/Gambier now - actually making progress to our destination! It's still squally (predicted to last until 8S) which is what is giving us the clouds this morning. Hopefully we will get through this squall line and into some sunshine soon! In the meantime our speed has picked up a bit, though in the last half hour the wind has dropped a little, our speed is still faster than the last few days with the gennaker.
