Ile de Groix
Ile de Groix

We love islands and Brittany is spoilt for choice! Having visited Ushant and the Iles de Glénans already, Ile de Groix was the next obvious choice. We had a bit of time in hand as we were due to meet Dad, Dave and family in Lorient soon after.

Groix is famous for its minerals, and some pretty stunning beaches. There's only one place to head to really and that's Port Tudy. It's a very small harbour with some berthing in an inner harbour - but for us the only choice was the fore-aft moorings in the outer harbour. So that was out plan.

We managed to sail most of the way and turned up to be met by a sceptical harbour master - but he found us a spot and took ropes for us - which is very handy indeed!

Shortly after mooring up, a horn sounds and the HM appears to get everyone out of the way. The ferry is coming and it means business! It manoeuvres within feet of the moored boats but is very well handled. They use all the space behind the moored boats to turn the ferry for departure. The Island is absolutely stunning. After a wet day, we took the bikes ashore by dinghy (fun in itself!) and had a cycle around. The signposts were great :) We found a lighthouse :) Phare du Pen Men There looked to be a yacht race going on, as lots of boats were headed past the headland, some trying quite hard...
