Beautiful Fakarava
Beautiful Fakarava

We've been up and down Fakarava a couple of times since our last blog post. Firstly we went up to Pakokota Yacht Services and had a great meal with Nautilus, Jadean and Nahoa who we haven't seen since they were tied to us for our Panama Canal transit.

We also went up to Rotoava, the village on Fakarva to provision and collect Alistair - then it was a blast south to be at the pass for the fabled grouper spawning. It's an event that happens on the full moon in either June or July. No-one really knows the timing, just the grouper and their Facebook page isn't useful!

This morning we dropped into the deep blue Pacific, well outside of the pass with Anthony remaining in the dinghy, and wow! There were thousands of grouper. Even down at 23m the sun was casting shadows of them in the sand. The actual spawning may have been at 6am this morning - it's not quite clear, but there are a lot of grouper still here. And there are a lot of very happy sharks. Way more than we saw on our previous dives. Not a bad dive for my 100th!!

We will try again tomorrow and see if the grouper are still here. I'm sure the sharks still will be! :)
