Day 3
Day 3
by Duplicat (via HF) at 18:09, 2014-12-17 (day 227)
Day 3 gave us some great sailing - we had the parasailor up until evening. We discussed flying it through the night, but as we were doing so the wind really picked up and I bottled er.. socked it. Another night under genoa made for an easy night, especially for Rick who had the night off.

Plain sailing overnight, no ships - nothing. Some nice stars but it kept clouding over. We gybed halfway through the night to maintain our angle as the wind shifted trying to push us more west than we wanted.

The ship's clock was changed so we're now operating on UTC-1 which gave us some daylight as the overnight watch ended. We took the opportunity to sling the parasailor back up, and have been dragged along by it since then. Its working really well for us and giving us some pretty nice speeds for low effort. We get the occasional collapse as we get pushed around by a cross swell (seastate: 2-4m, shimmy like my sister kate) but it usually unfolds smoothly.

Wind looks to be easing over the next few days, and its gorgeously sunny today - maybe tonight's the night? Our main interest at the moment is the weather on our track from the 'butter melts' point - there looks to be a low that may cause a void of light wind perhaps. Early days - but something to keep an eye on and decide if we want to duck down lower...

We also made up some more lures and a new handline - we'll report back on how we get on - but nothing so far. We'll keep trying - if nothing else, we'll have dragged a lure most of the way across the atlantic ;)
