The Blue Lagoon
The Blue Lagoon
by Rick at 01:39, 2022-07-07 (day 2986)

We decided we’d move up to the Blue Lagoon as the anchorage there is very pleasant (if a bit windy) and we’d finally be able to catch up with Chris and Lynda on Fenice.

It was a somewhat interesting sail, with the wind going from nothing to 30knots behind the island, and a solid 25-30 in the gap between the two. We caught a few fish - all small tunny so they went back.

As we turned into the passage to the anchorage, we passed Geniet Lewe going the other way. This is a boat we know well, albeit when it was with the previous owners. Haven’t yet shared an anchorage so not managed to meet the new owners yet.

The Blue Lagoon is indeed where the 1980 film of the same name was shot. Its a beautiful spot - the beaches here managed 13th in the world’s top 50 beaches. Not bad really - crystal clear warm water. Its not hard to be here. Once again, its very steep too, so we’re anchored in 16m of water.

We seemed to have stumbled into a wing-sailing mecca. Most of the boats seem to have one of these new foiling boards with a wind that you hang onto by hand. Looks very cool, but not sure I’m really up for it! We went for a walk ashore instead.

Lo’s has been around for quite some time. Alas she was hit by the double-whammy of a cyclone, followed by the pandemic which was quite tough for them up at this end of the Yasawas. She tells me numbers are down a bit this year too. The cyclone removed the old shop, so she now offers donuts, lemon tea, coffee etc out of her house. I love the sign. Cakes (sometimes) - best pre-order she says as she makes them but then no-one comes. We were the first yacht to go in a while. Tell your friends, she said. As we were leaving, quite a troop where headed that way - from the resort we think. Lo will be happy.

The Donuts are very nice. Not sure the walk really burns them off though!

I’m sure we used to be able to buy fresh produce in the store at the resort - but they didn’t have anything on offer today, despite the plantations looking very productive. Could just do with a nice green papaya (paw-paw) or a small bunch of lady finger bananas!

There are signs of a small window we could exploit to get to the Lau group at the end of next week. As usual, we’ll see how it develops - but that may mean a quick dash south to re-fuel, re-provision and re-position to a good spot to exploit the weather….
