Getting ready
Getting ready
by Rick at 00:40, 2022-11-02 (day 3104)

We’ve been bouncing around between the reef and Musket Cove with weather that has been hot with no wind, to very windy and lots of rain.

We’ve had some spectacular sunsets and its mostly been pretty nice. We’ve scrubbed the hulls, props, saildrives and waterline so everything is squeaky clean ready for NZ.

Looks like we’ll head out in 2 or 3 days. First part should be wind-on-the-beam sailing in nice winds, then the wind heads aft and picks up into the high 20s with some rain. However, it will (once again!) be aft of the beam and so should be a relatively nice ride. If we go earlier, we’ll meet the low and have some headwinds. If we go later, the high re-establishes control and we’ll get no wind. We want the Goldilocks zone! We’ll keep watching it (naturally) as we can change our minds - but we’re ready to be in New Zealand now :)

Anyway, preparations are going ahead for now. NZ notified, Fiji notified so we can clear out, fuel is still high, water tank is full, meals prepared (for the bit when it gets windy). Re-reading the rules of what we can and can’t take into New Zealand…
