Andrew and Jenny arrived into Beef Island late in the day. The next day we set off on a slightly different route. We visited Marina Cay as a nice gentle introduction to painkillers and caribbean cruising. Then we visited Eustatia Sound, the Bitter End Yacht Club, Cooper Island, Road Tow. (to reprovision), Norman Island and Great Harbour, Peter Island. At the last two, Andrew and I managed to get some diving in. We started on some shallow dives as Andrew hadn't dived for a while, but he was fine. Even the shallow dives had stunning flora and fauna. Our final dive was on the famous wreck of the RMS Rhone. Featured in the film, The Deep, it's a stunning wreck dive. The bow is in slightly deeper water so is a 30 minute dive. The stern is much shallower, so plenty of time to cruise around.
Jenny and Amanda spoilt us by baking home-made hot cross buns and other goodies. The faces of the dive boat crew as they returned to Duplicat after each dive experiencing wonderful aromas from the galley was something to see. Amanda took pity on them and provided us with fresh baked hot cross buns for the mid-dive interval on my last dive. Blue Water Divers are highly recommend especially Rupert, Karl and Megan and Keith who helped us organise it all over email.
Andrew and Jenny left us in Sopers Hole and had a few days luxury in a hotel ashore. The joke was about the unlimited hot running water compared to the boat - but then their boiler packed up! We had a fantastic time and we definitely need to repeat their visit. We just don't know where we will be next easter!
Large turtle that we saw a few times on the Rhone.
The rudder and propellor of the Rhone.
We also saw plenty of superyachts. Le Grand Bleu astounded our guests when it unloaded it's 73' powerboat tender! There was also the usual battle of the Underwater lights, easily won by this yacht.
Normal service will now be resumed on the blog, honest! We have a lot of sailing to do over the next month as we work our way south to Grenada. Some of it will be upwind too, so wish us luck!
