The Official welcome party, hosted by the Guyanese Government, took place at Hurakabra - also known as Kit and Gem's place. There were speeches by Kit, politicians and I was elected to say something on behalf of the fleet. We had a great time and it was good to see Cathy Hughes, the minister of Tourism again - fully supporting the rally. In fact, we showed her and some others around our boat. I was glad we'd done the washing up before going ashore! Typifying the sort of welcome we've all received was that not only were rally boats invited, but all yachts on the river were invited to join the celebrations. We had a great time.

We also spent some time up at Baganara which is a delightful place to anchor and very friendly towards visiting boats. One of the owners spent some time with us and joined us for drinks in the evening. It was very interesting to hear the details of running a place on an island. Everything is flown into their own airstrip from Georgetown and the free wifi they provide (to boats as well) costs them over US$1000/month as it has to be satellite based.
