Gem had been faced with so many permutations and combinations over the days leading up to our trip, I'm surprised she hadn't gone mad! However, she arranged for a charter plane to take us all to Kaieteur and then onto our next stop. We would jump off there, leaving the plane to return those who were just "doing Kaieteur" back to Bartica.
The roads out of Bartica were incredibly bad, and we bounced our way slowly towards the airfield, spotting the plane approaching as we did so. It landed with Gem and David onboard and they took our taxi back to town.
I was offered the co-pilots seat for the trip up to the falls, but as I climbed in, my camera started to play up! It wouldn't autofocus or meter anymore, so I was very upset as this trip was definitely a "once in a lifetime" event. Still, I was able to get some photos.
Guyana is called the "Land of many waters" for a good reason.
Kaieteur from the air was incredibly impressive. The BBC did a great documentary of Guyana called "Lost Land of the Jaguar" including an abseil down into the pool at the bottom of the falls. It's worth looking for.
