Mission failure

Yesterday was pretty windy, and not conducive to long dinghy trips. Today was a bit better, so off we went on the 5nm trip to find 4 men in a canoe.

The creek was pretty wide to begin with, and an easy dinghy ride. As it got narrower, we slowed and did the remaining 2nm at slow speed, looking out for crocs and rocks. We saw plenty of rocks, but fortunately no crocs.

At the end of the creek, we moored the dinghy and with the details that it was just 200m along the bank we went hunting. Could we find it? Not a chance. We hunted up and down, clambering up and over rocks, or along the bank. We found a cairn but couldn’t find another one so though it felt like we should go further along the escarpment, we found nothing going in that direction.

We had heard that this one was difficult to find, and after a lot of hunting - we had to give up and head back. A shame, as this is supposedly one of the oldest pictures of a boat!

On our way back, it looked quite ominous with lots of clouds - something we’ve not seen for a while. I wondered if we were going to see a bit of rain, but no such luck. It would be nice for the boat to get a fresh water shower for a change!

It did make for a spectacular sunset though….
